At Central, we take seriously our calling to share the good news about Jesus not just to our community, but to the world. To do this, we are involved with several mission areas.

FCC Butner

For over 25 years, members of the Central family have been bringing the message of Jesus to the inmates at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, NC. We currently have four men taking part in six weekly services and Bible studies at all five institutions that make up the Complex. We are always looking for others who would like to learn more about this ministry and become involved in it.

India

We're providing support for students at several preacher training schools in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, India under the oversight of Don Iverson and the elders of the Banner Elk Church of Christ. Schools have been established in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Kovilpati and Arakonam.

Texas

We're providing partial support for Mario de la Garza, who is serving at a Spanish speaking congregation in Lewisville, Texas. He is also involved in home Bible studies in Denton and Gainesville, Texas. In Gainesville, he and his wife also involved in teaching ESL classes.

Zimbabwe

Hymn books were published by Church of Christ missionaries in 1960's in Shona, which is the native language of the majority in Zimbabwe. These hymn books have been reprinted over the years; however, the church in Zimbabwe has grown to about 2000 congregations and the vast majority do not have hymn books. Central Church of Christ in Durham has contributed to help purchase a modern printing press in Zimbabwe to facilitate the production of hymn books for the congregations.

The Church of Christ in Zimbabwe has supported Nhowe Mission for the last 80 years.  This Mission has about 2000 acres in Zimbabwe about 90 miles east of the capitol of Harare. Central Church of Christ assisted the school by purchasing  4 laptop computers from One Laptop Per Child to add to the school's computer laboratory.

Central Church of Christ is also involved in supporting the church of Christ in Marondera, Zimbabwe. The congregation is about 45 miles outside the capitol of Zimbabwe and has about 120 members, but the economy is extremely weak in Zimbabwe and unemployment is about 70%. Also, the country of Zimbabwe has experienced the world's highest inflation rates for the last 6 years. The life expectancy in Zimbabwe is currently 37 years, with an extremely high percentage of AIDS in the community. This has impacted the church, as many of the members are housing AIDS orphans. To help the church in Marondera, our congregation is assisting in supporting the feeding of these AIDS orphans who are living with church members.
