As in New Testament times, our worship is participatory,
not a spectator sport. It is led by the men of the
congregation, who use their God-given gifts to help us
praise God and encourage each other. When you attend a
worship service, you'll observe (and, we hope, join in)
the following activities:
Singing
Singing is a means by which we praise God and
instruct/encourage one another. We sing a variety of
songs in many styles; our focus is on the words more
than the music. We have a number of song leaders in
the congregation who lead us in this phase of
worship.
Praying
Prayer is a special time when we can communicate our
thanks and needs to God, knowing that He listens to
us and answers us. When you visit us, you'll find a
prayer request card available. At the end of each
service, we offer prayers on behalf of those who
request them.
Lord's Supper
The Lord's Supper is the time we proclaim Jesus'
death on our behalf by sharing in unleavened bread
(representing Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for us)
and grape juice (representing the blood which removes
our sins). This is observed weekly by all Christians
at Central.
Preaching
An important part of meeting together is to encourage
each other to grow in the knowledge of God's word and
in His plans for our lives. At Central, we don't have
paid clergy. Instead, several men who have been
gifted to proclaim the message of Scripture present
lessons to us on a rotating basis.
Giving
At Central, we help support several mission efforts. To do
this, and to pay the expenses associated with
our facility, members of the Central family
make freewill offerings. We do not expect our
visitors to participate in this activity.
